You have your Advanced and Rescue certifications and have done some really neat diving…now what?

Becoming a Divemaster is like going behind the camera and becoming the director. Not only do you lead, motivate others and dive a lot, but you also benefit by learning what makes a successful dive. It is interesting because you use and develop skills you may not even be aware you have. You are a leader and there is nothing more rewarding than sharing and helping others experience the wonders and beauty that are underwater.

Why should I take this course? It will make you a well-rounded diver. Here's how:.

Prerequisites:

PADI Rescue Divers who are at least 18 years old may enroll in the PADI Divemaster course. You also need to have:

The PADI Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and supervise dive activities. Through knowledge development sessions, waterskills exercises and workshops, and hands-on practical assessments, you develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving activities. Topics and workshops include:

  • The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster

  • Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers

  • Diver safety and risk management

  • Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills

  • Business of diving and your career

  • Awareness of the dive environment

  • Dive setup and management

  • Map an open water site

  • Conduct dive briefings

  • Manage a search and recovery project and a deep dive

  • Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course

  • Assist with Discover Scuba Diving and lead Discover Local Diving programs

The goal of the course if to train divers to be well rounded with exemplary diving skills, supervisory and management skills, assist with scuba classes and be able to work anywhere in the world. You will accomplish this with workshops and working closely with real students taking scuba classes. Our programs will have you assisting with different instructors with different classes. This gives you experience with not only a variety of students, questions and problems but also different teaching styles and problem solving techniques.

 

The divemaster class is also a pre-requisite for those wanting to become a PADI scuba instructor. It can also qualify for ACE college credits – ask your instructor.

If you are needing more experience prior to starting the divemaster course we suggest the PADI Deep Diver, Search and Recovery Diver, Navigation and/or Night diver specialty courses along. These areas are widely used by divemaster and help to expand your abilities. They classes can be done during your divemaster trianing as well.
